A guide for a healthy adult. Puppies, older dogs and flat-faced breeds in the heat need less.

Good to know

  • Hungarian hunter: developed in Hungary from the Vizsla and German Wirehaired Pointer to hunt, point and retrieve in colder conditions and water.
  • Weather-ready coat: the dense, wiry coat protects them in cold water and rough cover, and needs only modest grooming with occasional stripping.
  • Energetic athletes: they love running, swimming and active play, and need plenty of daily exercise.
  • Gentle at home: calm and affectionate indoors, they bond closely with their families.
  • Sensitive learners: they respond best to positive, patient training rather than harsh correction.

Getting out with a Wirehaired Vizsla

Bred to keep going: they need plenty of exercise every day, like long trail walks, hikes and off-leash play where it's allowed.
