A guide for a healthy adult. Puppies, older dogs and flat-faced breeds in the heat need less.

Good to know

  • A mix, not a set breed: a cross of the West Highland White Terrier and the Poodle, so looks, coat and temperament vary with the parents.
  • Coat varies: it can be wiry, wavy or curly, and low shedding isn't guaranteed; most need regular brushing and professional trims.
  • Possible terrier streak: the Westie side may bring a love of digging, chasing small animals and barking.
  • Smart parents: both parent breeds are clever, so short, positive, consistent training sessions tend to work well.
  • A low-shedding coat. Some people with allergies find that easier to live with, but no breed is allergen-free.
  • A designer breed, from crossing two purebred parents, so size, coat and temperament vary more than in a purebred.

Getting out with a Westiepoo

They need daily exercise beyond a stroll: longer trails, games of fetch and time to run at the park.
