Good to know

  • Monastery watchdog: kept in Tibetan monasteries as companions and lookouts, they love a high perch, like a sofa back or windowsill, to watch the world from.
  • Alert but aloof: devoted to their family, they are often reserved with strangers and will bark to announce visitors.
  • Cat-like independence: clever and a little independent, they respond better to gentle, patient training than to repetition or harsh handling.
  • Manageable coat: the silky double coat needs weekly brushing, with extra attention to the feathering on ears and legs.
  • Moderate exercise: daily walks and play are usually enough, which makes them adaptable to apartment life.

Getting out with a Tibetan Spaniel
