A guide for a healthy adult. Puppies, older dogs and flat-faced breeds in the heat need less.
Good to know
- A mix, not a set breed: a cross of the English Springer Spaniel and the Poodle, so looks, coat and temperament vary with the parents and from puppy to puppy.
- Coat varies: it can be curly, wavy or flatter, and a low-shedding coat isn't guaranteed; most need regular brushing and a clip every few weeks.
- Two sporting parents: both springers and poodles were bred as active hunting dogs, so expect a dog that needs daily exercise and something to do.
- Often drawn to water: both parent breeds have a history of working in and around water, and many of these mixes love a swim.
- A low-shedding coat. Some people with allergies find that easier to live with, but no breed is allergen-free.
- A designer breed, from crossing two purebred parents, so size, coat and temperament vary more than in a purebred.
Getting out with a Springerdoodle
They need daily exercise beyond a stroll: longer trails, games of fetch and time to run at the park.
