A guide for a healthy adult. Puppies, older dogs and flat-faced breeds in the heat need less.

Good to know

  • Island exterminator: bred to hunt vermin on Scotland's Isle of Skye, they're brave little terriers built long and low.
  • Natural coat: the long double coat needs weekly brushing and combing but should not be clipped or scissored; scrubbing it during baths can cause mats.
  • Easygoing exercise: their exercise needs are modest, and a short daily outing usually keeps them content.
  • Sensitive and reserved: calmer than many terriers, they need early socialization and consistent, positive training, and tend to withdraw from harsh handling.

Getting out with a Skye Terrier

Daily walks and some play keep them content. A mix of park time and easy trails suits them.
