Good to know
- More terrier than lapdog: Silkys need more exercise than most toy breeds and enjoy daily walks, games of fetch and dog sports like agility.
- Hair-like coat: the fine, glossy coat behaves much like human hair and needs brushing at least twice a week to prevent tangles.
- Prey drive: true to their ratting roots, they'll chase small animals, so keep them leashed outdoors.
- Set the rules: charming enough to get away with things, they do best when owners make clear rules and stick to them, and they don't like being ignored.
- A low-shedding coat. Some people with allergies find that easier to live with, but no breed is allergen-free.

Daily walks and some play keep them content. A mix of park time and easy trails suits them.
