A guide for a healthy adult. Puppies, older dogs and flat-faced breeds in the heat need less.

Good to know

  • Born to run: bred to pull sleds over long distances in the cold, Huskies have an overwhelming urge to run, so keep them leashed or in a securely fenced area.
  • Big sheds, little odor: they're naturally clean with little doggy smell, but blow their undercoat twice a year, when it needs raking out regularly.
  • Friendly to a fault: sociable with people and dogs, they make poor watchdogs, but they can be very vocal.
  • Need company and a job: they don't like being left alone all day and are happiest with lots of exercise and activity.
  • Chase instinct: they find it hard to resist chasing small animals.

Getting out with a Siberian Husky

Bred to keep going: they need plenty of exercise every day, like long trail walks, hikes and off-leash play where it's allowed.
