Good to know
- A mixed breed: the Shorkie is a cross between a Shih Tzu and a Yorkshire Terrier, so size, coat and temperament vary with the parents and the individual dog.
- Coat care varies: both parents have long, fine coats that keep growing, so most Shorkies need frequent brushing and regular trims, though shedding is usually light.
- Companion meets terrier: they may take after the laid-back Shih Tzu or the bolder, more vocal Yorkie, so expect some variation in energy and barking.
- A low-shedding coat. Some people with allergies find that easier to live with, but no breed is allergen-free.
- A designer breed, from crossing two purebred parents, so size, coat and temperament vary more than in a purebred.
Getting out with a Shorkie
Daily walks and some play keep them content. A mix of park time and easy trails suits them.
