A guide for a healthy adult. Puppies, older dogs and flat-faced breeds in the heat need less.

Good to know

  • Ancient sighthound: one of the oldest dog types, bred to chase game by sight across the Middle East; walk them on a leash and keep them in a well-fenced yard.
  • Runners at heart: they love to run and need regular exercise, and lure coursing, agility or flyball give their minds a workout too.
  • Clean and easy: both the smooth and feathered coats need only weekly brushing, and Salukis are known for having little doggy odor; a snood keeps long ear feathering out of the bowl.
  • Can get into mischief: bored or unhappy Salukis can become escape artists or destructive chewers, so secure fencing and safe chew toys help.

Getting out with a Saluki

They need daily exercise beyond a stroll: longer trails, games of fetch and time to run at the park.
