Good to know

  • Built for the foxhunt: developed in England as a working terrier for foxhunting, they keep a strong prey drive, so early socialization is important.
  • Not for couch potatoes: they have energy to spare and suit outdoorsy families who walk, hike or bike every day.
  • Bored easily: smart and quick to master tricks, they need short, entertaining training sessions and enjoy agility, flyball and other dog sports.
  • Three easy coats: smooth, broken and rough coats all stay mostly natural, needing only a weekly brush or rubdown.

Getting out with a Russell Terrier

Bred to keep going: they need plenty of exercise every day, like long trail walks, hikes and off-leash play where it's allowed.
