A guide for a healthy adult. Puppies, older dogs and flat-faced breeds in the heat need less.

Good to know

  • A tiny spitz: descended from larger spitz-type sled dogs, the Pom keeps the bold, confident attitude of its bigger relatives.
  • Fluffy coat care: the profuse double coat needs brushing down to the skin weekly to prevent mats.
  • Little escape artists: they can slip through small gaps or climb low fences, so keep an eye on them outdoors.
  • Watch the jumps: because they are so small, it helps to discourage leaping on and off high furniture to avoid injuries.
  • Can be barky: alert and lively, many Poms are quick to sound off at sounds and visitors.

Getting out with a Pomeranian
