Good to know

• Rabbit hound from France: bred to hunt hare and rabbit by scent in rough, brushy country, with a rough coat to protect them from thorns.
• Nose leads the way: they have a strong urge to follow interesting scents, so exercise them on leash outside a fenced yard.
• Vocal: as pack hounds, they tend to be quite noisy and like to use their voice.
• Tousled coat: the harsh coat needs a full weekly brushing, but little trimming, since the scruffy look is part of the breed.
• Their own agenda: smart and happy but independent, they need an owner who keeps training interesting and consistent.

Getting out with a Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen

They need daily exercise beyond a stroll: longer trails, games of fetch and time to run at the park.
