A guide for a healthy adult. Puppies, older dogs and flat-faced breeds in the heat need less.

Good to know

  • Big herder, short legs: bred to herd cattle and sheep, they may try to herd children or other pets.
  • They shed a lot: the thick double coat sheds daily and even more in late spring and early summer, so regular brushing helps.
  • Need a job: they are happiest with moderate daily exercise and things to do, like herding, agility, obedience or tracking.
  • Smart and sometimes stubborn: they often have a mind of their own but respond well to positive, reward-based training.
  • Mind the weather: avoid hard exercise in extreme heat or cold, and their short legs aren't made to keep up with a bike.

Getting out with a Pembroke Welsh Corgi

They need daily exercise beyond a stroll: longer trails, games of fetch and time to run at the park.
