A guide for a healthy adult. Puppies, older dogs and flat-faced breeds in the heat need less.

Good to know

  • A crossbreed: a mix of Maltese and Shih Tzu, so coat, size and temperament vary with each dog's parents.
  • Companion parents: both parent breeds were bred as companion dogs, so most are people-focused and like to stay close.
  • Coat care: both parents have long, low-shedding coats, so expect regular brushing and trims to prevent mats.
  • A low-shedding coat. Some people with allergies find that easier to live with, but no breed is allergen-free.
  • A designer breed, from crossing two purebred parents, so size, coat and temperament vary more than in a purebred.

Getting out with a Maltese Shih Tzu

Daily walks and some play keep them content. A mix of park time and easy trails suits them.
