A guide for a healthy adult. Puppies, older dogs and flat-faced breeds in the heat need less.

Good to know

  • Livestock guardian: bred in Hungary to protect sheep from wolves and thieves, they are naturally protective and wary of strangers.
  • Corded coat: the dense white coat forms long felted cords; it is never brushed, but the cords must be separated by hand and take a long time to dry after bathing.
  • Independent thinker: bred to make decisions alone, they need firm, consistent training and early socialization.
  • A job to do: they watch over their home and family, and their protective instinct is strong.
  • A low-shedding coat. Some people with allergies find that easier to live with, but no breed is allergen-free.

Getting out with a Komondor

Daily walks and some play keep them content. A mix of park time and easy trails suits them.
