A guide for a healthy adult. Puppies, older dogs and flat-faced breeds in the heat need less.

Good to know

  • A mixed breed: the Irish Doodle crosses an Irish Setter with a Poodle, so coat, size and temperament vary depending on the parents.
  • Plenty of energy: both parent breeds are active and playful, so expect a dog that needs daily exercise and play.
  • Grooming varies: coats range from wavy to curly; most need regular brushing and occasional clipping, and none is guaranteed hypoallergenic.
  • A low-shedding coat. Some people with allergies find that easier to live with, but no breed is allergen-free.
  • A designer breed, from crossing two purebred parents, so size, coat and temperament vary more than in a purebred.

Getting out with a Irish Doodle

They need daily exercise beyond a stroll: longer trails, games of fetch and time to run at the park.
