A guide for a healthy adult. Puppies, older dogs and flat-faced breeds in the heat need less.

Good to know

  • Coach dogs: bred to run alongside horse-drawn carriages and guard them, they have great endurance and need plenty of daily exercise.
  • Born spotless: puppies are born white, and their spots appear over the following weeks.
  • Constant shedders: the short coat sheds year-round, so frequent brushing helps keep hair off furniture.
  • Reserved with strangers: loyal to family and naturally watchful, they benefit from early socialization.

Getting out with a Dalmatian

Bred to keep going: they need plenty of exercise every day, like long trail walks, hikes and off-leash play where it's allowed.
