A guide for a healthy adult. Puppies, older dogs and flat-faced breeds in the heat need less.

Good to know

  • A designer cross: a mix of the Chihuahua and the Yorkshire Terrier, so coat, size and temperament vary with the parents.
  • Lively little companions: both parents are confident, alert toy breeds, and many Chorkies are quick to bark at newcomers.
  • Coat care varies: a Chorkie can have a short coat or a longer, silky Yorkie-type coat that needs frequent brushing to avoid tangles.
  • A low-shedding coat. Some people with allergies find that easier to live with, but no breed is allergen-free.
  • A designer breed, from crossing two purebred parents, so size, coat and temperament vary more than in a purebred.

Getting out with a Chorkie

They need daily exercise beyond a stroll: longer trails, games of fetch and time to run at the park.
