A guide for a healthy adult. Puppies, older dogs and flat-faced breeds in the heat need less.

Good to know

  • Cattle herder: bred in Wales to drive cattle by nipping at their heels, so some may try to herd people or pets.
  • Look for the tail: unlike the Pembroke, the Cardigan has a long, brushy tail and comes in more colors, including blue merle.
  • Big shedder: the double coat sheds all year and heavily in seasonal blowouts, so plan on frequent brushing.
  • Active and smart: they need daily exercise and training, and enjoy dog sports like herding and agility.

Getting out with a Cardigan Welsh Corgi

They need daily exercise beyond a stroll: longer trails, games of fetch and time to run at the park.
