A guide for a healthy adult. Puppies, older dogs and flat-faced breeds in the heat need less.

Good to know

  • Stable ratter turned companion: they were originally kept in Brussels stables to catch rats before becoming companion dogs.
  • Two coat types: the rough coat needs regular brushing and hand-stripping, while the smooth coat needs just occasional brushing and sheds more.
  • Big personality: they bond closely with their people and can be sensitive, so they do best with gentle handling and company.
  • Short face, careful in heat: their flat face means they should be kept cool in hot, humid weather.
  • A low-shedding coat. Some people with allergies find that easier to live with, but no breed is allergen-free.

Getting out with a Brussels Griffon

Daily walks and some play keep them content. A mix of park time and easy trails suits them.
