A guide for a healthy adult. Puppies, older dogs and flat-faced breeds in the heat need less.

Good to know

  • French herder and guardian: bred to herd and guard flocks, they are protective, loyal and often wary of strangers.
  • Long coat to maintain: the long, slightly wavy coat needs thorough brushing to the skin regularly to prevent mats.
  • Needs exercise and a role: they are active and intelligent, and thrive on daily exercise and training.
  • A low-shedding coat. Some people with allergies find that easier to live with, but no breed is allergen-free.

Getting out with a Briard

They need daily exercise beyond a stroll: longer trails, games of fetch and time to run at the park.
