Good to know

  • Traits vary: a cross of the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle, so size, coat, energy and temperament depend on the parents and differ from dog to dog.
  • Coat care varies: coats range from straight to curly; curlier coats may shed less but usually need regular brushing and professional clipping.
  • No breed standard: this is a crossbreed rather than a recognized breed, so ask the breeder about both parents' temperament and coats.
  • A low-shedding coat. Some people with allergies find that easier to live with, but no breed is allergen-free.
  • A designer breed, from crossing two purebred parents, so size, coat and temperament vary more than in a purebred.

Getting out with a Bernedoodle

Daily walks and some play keep them content. A mix of park time and easy trails suits them.

Common health considerations

Inherited conditions to ask your vet about

  • Hip/elbow dysplasia
  • Cancer (from Bernese parent)
  • Addison's disease
  • Eye issues

Common issues

  • Ear infections
  • Skin allergies
  • Joint issues

Bloat (GDV) risk: moderate. A swollen belly with retching but nothing coming up is an emergency: go to a vet straight away.

Not every Bernedoodle will have these. Good breeders screen for inherited conditions, and your vet can advise on testing and check-ups.
