Basenji

Good to know

• The "barkless" dog: they rarely bark, but they do yodel, howl and make other unusual sounds.
• Catlike habits: famously clean, they groom themselves and have little doggy odor, and the short coat needs minimal care.
• Independent hunters: bred in Central Africa to hunt by sight and scent, they have a strong prey drive and often a weak recall, so keep them leashed.
• Clever escape artists: curious and mischievous, they can climb or slip out of yards and need plenty of exercise and supervision.

Getting out with a Basenji

They need daily exercise beyond a stroll: longer trails, games of fetch and time to run at the park.
