- Desert sighthounds: from the Sahel region of West Africa, they hunt by sight and will chase fast-moving animals, so a secure fence is important.
- Reserved by nature: devoted to their own people but typically distant with strangers, and many prefer not to be touched by people they don't know.
- Heat lovers: they handle heat well but have very little body fat and a thin coat, so they feel the cold and may need a coat in winter.
- Easy coat: the short, fine coat needs very little grooming.
- Room to run: they need daily exercise, including chances to gallop safely in an enclosed space.
